The executive committee of Lviv City Council has designated the National University “Lviv Polytechnic” as the commissioning body for the development of design and cost-estimate documentation for the creation of a public space with a monument to Yevhen Konovalets on the university grounds.
The project envisages the creation of a new public space with a bust of Yevhen Konovalets near the university’s main building, as well as comprehensive landscaping works on the adjacent area.
The design and cost-estimate documentation will be prepared by the winner of the All-Ukrainian open architectural competition for the design proposal of a public space with a monument to Yevhen Konovalets in Lviv, which took place in 2024. When announcing the results of the competition, the jury recommended that the winning authors supplement the memorial with an image of Yevhen Konovalets.
According to the Director of the Urban Planning Department of Lviv City Council, Oksana Pryhoda, the city and the university have been working together on the implementation of this project for almost two years, in particular on the installation of the bust on the “Lviv Polytechnic” campus.
“Everything relating to the territory of ‘Lviv Polytechnic’ will be funded by the university. What concerns the street infrastructure will be financed from the city budget. The city has contributed a subvention of 1.5 million UAH,” said Oksana Pryhoda
She also noted that the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has granted permission for the approval of this project, and that the final preparation of all the necessary documents is now under way so that the university can officially act as the commissioning body for the design and cost-estimate documentation.
