The participants of the Children’s Parliament shared with the youth of Drohobych the experience they gained during the Polish-Ukrainian youth exchange and presented a prepared joint presentation. We are talking about the project “Between the city and the city: Bytom – Drohobych”. The presentation took place in the sun room of the Drohobytsky City Center of Social Services. The project was presented by the participants of the Children’s Parliament, who recently returned from Bytom. The listeners were representatives of youth and public youth organizations of the city.
During the presentation, the representatives of the Children’s Parliament talked about how they worked together with the youth from Bytom on the presentation of storytelling and how they visited various places in Bytom and Katowice as part of their research. In particular, at the invitation of the mayor of the city of Bytom, young parliamentarians from Drohobytsi visited the local Town Hall and also had an interesting meeting with an honorary senator. Later, they visited the lecture of Dr. Malgożata Mysliwiec, professor at UŚ, “Silesian History” at the University of Silesia in Katowice, as well as the Upper Silesian Museum in Bytom and the Information Point for Foreigners in Katowice, which is under the care of the In Corpore Foundation.
The project had three main goals: finding similarities between Polish and Ukrainian cities, increasing the interest of young people in the history of their own region, and intercultural education of young people.
Representatives of the Children’s Parliament of Drohobych were offered to become members of the European Youth Club.
In general, the project helped the youth of Bytom and Drohobych to get to know each other better, to explore the history of the two cities, and to jointly discover interesting pages of history and cultural heritage.
As a reminder, Polish Bytom is a sister city of Drohobych. From the first days of the full-scale invasion, Bytom actively supported and continues to support Drohobych with humanitarian missions.
