Lviv Region prepares programme for the 170th anniversary of Ivan Franko

Lviv Region is preparing to mark the 170th anniversary of Ivan Franko. The region is putting together an extensive programme of cultural, academic and educational events aimed at promoting the writer’s legacy.

Since March, a number of cultural and artistic, academic and educational events have already been taking place in the region. The next step was the first meeting of the Organising Committee, held on 16 June. Following this meeting, a draft programme was outlined, covering culture and the arts, science and education, commemoration, tourism, museum work, sport and the media.

The main hubs for marking the anniversary have been designated as Nahuievychi, Lviv and Drohobych district. The Ivan Franko Museum, the Nahuievychi heritage site, the specialist college of culture and arts, the philharmonic and Drohobych City Council have already submitted their proposals for the programme.

Petro Tseholko, Deputy Chair of the Commission on Culture, Information Policy and Promotion, stressed that considerable attention is to be given to publishing projects – in particular, memoirs and studies about Franko that will have a lasting impact even after the anniversary celebrations have concluded.

Other ideas include themed exhibitions in the premises of the Lviv Regional Council and the Lviv Regional Military Administration. The final plan of events for the 170th anniversary of Ivan Franko is to be approved in the near future.
