The project “Bojan. Echoes of the Centuries” from Drohobych wins in the nationwide “Tysiachovesna” initiative

The documentary musical and artistic production “Bojan. Echoes of the Centuries”, dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the municipal male choral ensemble “Bojan Drohobytskyi”, has been included among the winners of the nationwide “Tysiachovesna” initiative in the “Performative Art” category. This was reported by the Department of Culture and Tourism Development of the Drohobych City Council.

The project went through several stages of competitive selection, including a final defence in Ivano-Frankivsk, where the team presented the concept of the future production. Among the numerous applications from across Ukraine, it was precisely the Drohobych concept that was given the opportunity to move on to the stage of practical implementation.

“Bojan Drohobytskyi” has a history of more than 125 years and is an important part of the city’s cultural heritage. The new production is intended not only to tell the story of the ensemble’s past, but also to interpret it in the contemporary language of the stage, combining documentary materials, music and theatrical means of expression.

The initiative has been supported from the outset by the Mayor of Drohobych, Taras Kuchma. The main partner is the Drohobych Vasyl Barvinskyi Professional Music College, in cooperation with whose symphony orchestra the story of “Bojan” is to gain a new stage and musical sound.

A dedicated team worked on the application and presentation. It included the head of the municipal male choral ensemble “Bojan Drohobytskyi” Volodymyr Ostash, head of the Culture and Arts Department of the Department of Culture and Tourism Development Lesia Tatarska, financial coordinator Khrystyna Znak, and content creator Roman Dydyk, who documented participation in the final pitching.

The Department of Culture emphasises that the victory was preceded by months of preparation: shaping the idea, drafting the application, working out the budget and documents, and going through several competitive stages and the final defence. Making it to the list of winners was the result of systematic teamwork and a shared vision of how to present Drohobych’s cultural heritage in a contemporary way.

The nationwide “Tysiachovesna” initiative is aimed at supporting authors and creative teams who produce contemporary Ukrainian cultural works with strong social and international potential. The success of the Drohobych project in the “Performative Art” category opens up new opportunities for staging the production and promoting the story of “Bojan Drohobytskyi” beyond the local community.

For Drohobych, this is not only recognition of a single cultural project, but also an opportunity once again to showcase its heritage at the national level and to demonstrate that stories which began in the city more than a century ago can still resonate with new generations.

The creative team now faces the task of bringing the concept to life. The 125-year history of “Bojan Drohobytskyi” is seen as an opportunity not only to look back at the past, but also to create a new chapter in the ensemble’s life.

The Department of Culture and Tourism Development expressed its gratitude to the “Tysiachovesna” initiative team and to Tetiana Berezhna for the opportunity to present the project and receive support for its implementation. Special thanks were also extended to regional council deputy Serhii Olenych for supporting the team on its way to the final pitching.
