The wooden church of St. Michael dates back to 1663. It is located in the village of Isai, Sambir district.
Today, September 27, the head of the Lviv OVA, Maksym Kozytsky, as part of a working visit to Sambir Oblast, familiarized himself with the progress of restoration works at the architectural monument of national importance – the Church of St. Michael. It is one of the oldest wooden churches in the Lviv region, which has preserved its authentic appearance. It was built in 1663 according to the project of the builder Ilya Panteleimon. In 2018, the state of the temple was recognized as emergency, and then its restoration began.
This year, 3 million 600 thousand hryvnias were allocated from the regional budget for the restoration of this unique church. Approximately 2 million of them have already been transferred according to the acts of the performed works to the contracting organization – Creative Factory “Victoria” LLC.
Thanks to these funds, it was possible to complete works that stabilized the structure of the church:
- fix the foundations;
- replace wooden elements of building structures;
- strengthen the walls;
- arrangement of wooden floor coverings of the church, galleries of the first and second tiers;
- replace the attic and shingle covering.
“In order to replace the foundation and the first beam, the foundations, the contracting organization literally lifted the temple into the air. The facility is now out of emergency. Now his wall painting, which is in danger of destruction and may be lost, also needs attention. That is why we have earmarked another million hryvnias in the regional budget for its restoration. The work will be performed by the artist-restorer of the highest category Oleg Rishniak with a team of specialists. Such a comprehensive approach will ensure the best preservation of the shrine,” said Maksym Kozytskyi.
The contractor also installed a video surveillance camera at the facility, which provides access to 24-hour monitoring of the restoration progress. The department of architecture and development of urban planning of Lviv OVA noted that they expect that such a positive practice will be adopted by other contracting organizations.
