Unique Audio Tour in Belz for Heritage Week

A unique audio tour was presented in Belz for the Jewish Cultural Heritage Week in the Lviv region.

The feature of the tour is the guide’s voice, performed by Rabbi Shalom Rokach, the well-known spiritual leader of the Belz Hasidim. Thanks to a masterfully written script, he ‘comes to life’ for the visitors. ‘I thank the representatives of the Belz City Council for their fruitful cooperation and careful preparation for the event,’ notes Taras Lozynskyy, Deputy Director of the Department of Sports, Youth, and Tourism of the Lviv Regional State Administration.

The tour starts at the modern Ukraine square, the former Market Square. ‘Welcome to the Belz Community. My name is Shalom Rokach. I invite you on a journey through my hometown of Belz, a city of Hasidic wisdom, light and pain, as well as hope and memory,’ the guide states.

The route includes the building of the ‘Yeshre Lev’ society, which once helped the poor, and the place where the Belz Synagogue stood tall. The final part of the route is the ancient Jewish cemetery, dating back to the 16th century. ‘The matzevot are like books engraved on stone. Each inscription is a life. Each symbol is a prayer,’ the guide speaks.

The Jewish Cultural Heritage Week is organized by the initiative of the Department of Sports, Youth, and Tourism of the Lviv Regional State Administration and other organizations.
