National architectural competition announced in Drohobych for the city centre

An open nationwide architectural competition is being launched in Drohobych on the theme “Development of the central part of Drohobych as an urban core in the context of contemporary transformations”. The decision to hold it was taken on 9 June at a meeting of the executive committee of Drohobych City Council.

The organiser of the competition is the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning. The aim of the initiative is to develop a comprehensive and innovative spatial solution for transforming the central part of Drohobych into a modern urban core that combines historical and cultural heritage with the current needs of the community.

The competition tasks include preserving and revitalising the historic environment, creating a high-quality, inclusive and safe public space, rethinking the transport model of the centre, integrating contemporary urban practices, boosting economic and tourism potential, and shaping a new identity for the central part of the city as a vibrant urban space.

Professionals, students, enthusiasts, creative teams and individual specialists working in the fields of architecture or design are invited to take part. The authors of the best entries will receive prizes, and their projects will form the basis for future comprehensive solutions for the development of Drohobych city centre.

Those wishing to take part in the competition must submit an application to the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning at pl. Rynok, 20, 4th floor, or by email. After registration, participants are provided with the initial data required for design.

Participant registration is open until 26 June 2026, and the preparation of competition projects is scheduled until 1 October 2026.
