At the Museum-Arsenal, a branch of the Lviv Regional Council Municipal Institution “Lviv Historical Museum”, a new part of the “Accessible Arsenal” exhibition has been unveiled – the interactive and inclusive “Shooting Range”. Here visitors can touch reconstructions of historical weapons and armour, try on protective gear and have a go at shooting a traditional bow.
The project, worth 600 thousand UAH, was funded from the regional budget as part of the Comprehensive Programme for the Development of Culture in Lviv Region for 2026, under the heading “Culture without Barriers”. The space has been organised so that it can be used by people of different ages and with different physical abilities, including visitors with visual impairments.
For blind visitors, the target for bow shooting has been fitted with bells, allowing arrows hitting the mark to be located by sound. During the presentation, the “Shooting Range” was tested by blind schoolgirl Diana Paterega, who tried out the possibilities of the updated space.
Museum guests can also try on reconstructions of military equipment from the 16th–17th centuries: a “sallet” helmet, a cuirass and a “kalkan” shield, experiencing the weight and shape of historical armour.
“It is very important that our museums are changing: they are becoming accessible, interactive, modern – places where you genuinely want to come. Today a museum must be for everyone, because people with disabilities are children and adults alike, and our defenders who have lost their health protecting our lives. Above all, history should not be something distant behind glass. It is our memory and cultural heritage,” noted Acting Chair of the Lviv Regional Council Yurii Kholod.
The exhibition is educational and national-patriotic in character: through historical weapons and military practices it introduces visitors to the tradition of defending one’s land – from the warriors of the princely era and the Ukrainian Cossacks to today’s defenders of Ukraine, both men and women.
The entrance ticket costs 100 UAH, with concessions available for schoolchildren, veterans and other categories. The Museum-Arsenal is located at 5 Pidvalna Street in Lviv, and its weapons collection comprises around 4,500 items.
