A street exhibition entitled “Wall of Remembrance” by the “Unfinished” project has opened on Rynok Square in Lviv, dedicated to people of letters who were killed as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The installation is located by the building at 1 Rynok Square and will be on view until 13 September.
The “Wall of Remembrance” was previously on display in Franko Park, where it was unveiled on 16 August as part of the “Book Square” book exchange. The opening was accompanied by the performance “Echo” featuring poet and veteran Olena Herasymiuk and poet and veteran Pavlo Matiusha. The exhibition is subsequently planned to be shown in different districts of Lviv.
“Unfinished” is a project commemorating people of letters who have been killed in the full-scale war. The “Wall of Remembrance” is a joint initiative of the Ukrainian Book Institute, the Cultural Forces of Ukraine and the OVO literary agency. It was first presented in 2025 as part of the Ukrainian national stand at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
The exhibition consists of two parts. On one large blue wall, visitors can leave stickers with the names of cultural figures who have been killed. The other features biographical notes on writers who lived and worked in Lviv.
The organiser and initiator of bringing the “Wall of Remembrance” to Lviv is the Lviv Municipal Library. The project has been implemented with the involvement of the NGO “Ukrainian Association of Cultural Studies Scholars — Lviv” and the office of “Lviv – City of Literature of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network”, with the support of Lviv City Council.
