The laureates of the Third All-Ukrainian Myroslav Skoryk Composers’ Competition have been awarded at the Myroslav Skoryk Lviv National Philharmonic. The event was organised to honour the memory of Hero of Ukraine, composer Myroslav Skoryk, and to support young authors of contemporary Ukrainian music.
First prize for the work “SONARE” for orchestra was awarded to Mykhailo Chedryk. Second prize went to Maksym Ivanov for his work “THE LANDSCAPE BEYOND THE SHATTERED WINDOW”. Third prize was awarded to Yevhenii Buivol for the composition “WILD MAGIC”.
Maksym Ivanov and Ivan Vrublevskyi also received finalist diplomas. This year 22 participants registered for the competition, and the international jury selected five works for the final.
The jury included composers Bohdana Froliak and Alla Zagaykevych, pianist Oleh Bezborodko, composer and oboist Maksym Kolomiiets, as well as Polish representative Sławomir Wojciechowski.
On behalf of the deputies of the Lviv Regional Council, the winners were congratulated by councillor Oreslava Khomyk.
“The legacy of Myroslav Skoryk belongs to the treasury of Ukraine’s national treasures. I wish for you that in 100 years’ time someone will stand on this stage and say: ‘I had the honour of knowing this composer’ — and name you. We thank the organisers and the jury, and above all our bravest Armed Forces of Ukraine for making it possible for us to be here” — Oreslava Khomyk
The total prize fund of the competition was UAH 150,000: UAH 75,000 for first place, UAH 50,000 for second and UAH 25,000 for third.
The Myroslav Skoryk Composers’ Competition was established in Lviv in 2021. Its aim is to support young Ukrainian composers, develop the national school of composition and encourage the creation of new symphonic works.
This year the awards ceremony took place as part of the “Contrasts” festival. During the gala concert the philharmonic’s academic symphony orchestra performed the five finalist works of the competition.
