At the Les Kurbas Lviv Academic Theatre, a comprehensive replacement of the electrical network for the stage and auditorium has begun, along with the modernisation of the stage lighting system. The works are funded from the city budget.
The repairs and technical upgrades are scheduled to be completed by mid-November 2026. As a result, the theatre is temporarily not staging performances between 26 October and 15 November 2026.
The theatre building was constructed in 1908, and part of the engineering networks has survived since it was first built. For many years only individual sections were renewed, so it has now been decided to completely replace the electrical networks in the theatre’s main spaces.
The theatre administration emphasises that the main aim of the works is to improve safety. The new electrical network will comply with current electrical and fire safety requirements, creating safer conditions for staff and audiences.
At the same time, the theatre will receive a modern stage lighting system. It will allow for a wider range of lighting effects, more flexible visual design of productions, and the implementation of complex creative ideas by directors and lighting designers.
The new equipment will be more energy-efficient, which will help reduce electricity consumption and ensure more stable theatre operations, particularly during power cuts when the venue switches to generator power.
All works are being carried out with due regard for the fact that the theatre building is a listed architectural monument. During the replacement of the electrical networks, the requirements of cultural heritage protection legislation are being observed, and the work methods are being selected so as to preserve the authentic structures and architectural elements of the historic building.
