On Thursday, 29 October, a free guided tour of the exhibition “echo returning sensing echo”, dedicated to the sound archives of Lviv Radio and Ukrainian cultural heritage, will take place at the City Museum on Rynok Square, 1 in Lviv. Prior registration is required to take part.
During the tour, visitors will be told how researchers worked with the archives of Lviv Radio, selected materials for the exhibition and transformed them into artistic works. Particular attention will be paid to how sound recordings help to reinterpret cultural memory and trace the development of Ukrainian culture across different historical periods.
The tour will be led by cultural studies scholar Bohdana Tkachuk and composer Ostap Manulyak, who were directly involved in the research and preparation of the exhibition. They will present historical materials, explain the specifics of working with the sound archives of Lviv Radio, which belong to JSC “NSTU”, and talk about how the exhibition was put together.
Part of the tour will focus on the artworks created on the basis of archival recordings. In particular, Ostap Manulyak is the co-author of the installation “Resonances”, created together with Anton Malynovskyi. This installation opens the exhibition and greets visitors in the first hall of the exhibition space.
The exhibition “echo returning sensing echo” explores the connections between past and present, shows how Ukrainian culture has preserved its identity in times of threat, and offers a new perspective on sound heritage. A significant part of the exhibition consists of the results of research into archival materials from Lviv Radio.
The project was implemented by the Lviv Radio Municipal Enterprise in cooperation with the City Museum, the tourism office and the Department of Culture of Lviv City Council, with the support of the development company Avalon. The exhibition uses materials owned by JSC “NSTU”.
Bohdana Tkachuk is a cultural studies scholar, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Associate Professor at the Department of Cultural Studies of the Ukrainian Catholic University, a cultural and project manager, and head of the “House of Sound” department at the Lviv Radio Municipal Enterprise.
