On Saturday, 27 June, a charity concert entitled “Five Centuries of Sacred Music of Ukraine” will take place at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul of the UGCC in Lviv. The event is dedicated to the memory of the outstanding Ukrainian singer, Hero of Ukraine Vasyl Slipak, to mark the tenth anniversary of his death. All funds raised during the concert will be directed to the needs of the 80th Separate Air Assault Brigade.
The organisers have prepared a unique programme that covers five centuries of the development of Ukrainian sacred music – from the monodies of the 16th century to contemporary sacred works of the 21st century. The audience will hear monodies, cantos, psalms, partes concerts, fragments of liturgies and modern sacred compositions.
The concert will feature works by renowned Ukrainian composers: Mykola Dyletsky, Dmytro Bortniansky, Maksym Berezovsky, Mykola Lysenko, Mykhailo Verbytsky, Mykola Leontovych, Oleksandr Koshyts, as well as contemporary composers Hanna Havrylets and Dmytro Katsal.
Taking part in the event will be the Lviv National Academic Male Choral Chapel “Dudaryk”, soloists of the chapel and the Early Music Ensemble under the artistic direction of Oleh Yarema. The concert will be conducted by the composer and conductor Dmytro Katsal.
The concert begins at 16:00.
