The fourth Art Charity Pop-Up charity art event has taken place in Lviv, where Ukrainian painters and sculptors sold their works to raise funds for the Defence Forces of Ukraine. More than 50 artists and art projects from across the Lviv region joined the initiative.
All proceeds from the sale of the works will be directed by the organisers to units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine where their friends and colleagues serve — also artists from the Lviv region. The event continued a series of charity auctions that have been held in the city for two years now.
The Art Charity Pop-Up was organised by sculptors Volodymyr Semkiv, Denys Shymanskyi and volunteer Nataliia Osadcha. According to Semkiv, such events in Lviv are held roughly once every six months, and money from the sale of works continues to come in for several days after the main event, so the final total will be announced later.
At the previous auction of this kind, more than 800,000 hryvnias were raised. This year’s fourth Art Charity Pop-Up was dedicated to the Day of the State Flag and Independence Day of Ukraine and took place on 23 and 24 August.
Members of the Lviv Regional Council also took part in the charity event, including Zakhar Mylyanyk, Olena Vasyľko and Severyn Khobzei. Zakhar Mylyanyk said that taking part in these auctions has become a welcome tradition for him: this time he acquired a sculpture entitled ‘Body’ by Denys Shymanskyi, made from clay brought from near Sloviansk, which is now close to the front line.
The organisers emphasise that 100% of proceeds from the sale of artworks will be donated to support the military, and the final results of the fundraising campaign will be published once all contributions have been received at the end of the week.
