The facade of the Korniakt Palace (Royal House), a department of the Lviv Historical Museum at 6 Rynok Square, will soon be restored in Lviv. The work will be fully funded by the National Institute of Polish Cultural Heritage Abroad, Polonika.

“A multi-year process has been completed, which included negotiations with Instytut Polonika, the National Institute of Polish Cultural Heritage Abroad, Polonika, examination of the building’s facade, preparation of design estimates and approval by the competent authorities, selection of the contractor, and obtaining all necessary permits to start work. All costs of this extremely important project were borne by Polonika. The work is expected to be completed at the end of next year,” the Lviv Historical Museum reports.

Over the past few years, this is the second project to restore a building on Rynok Square that the Lviv Historical Museum has implemented in cooperation with foreign partners.

The first experience concerned the Black House, which was restored with the financial support of the United States of America.

This building got its second name, the Royal House, because it was owned by Jan Sobieski, and later housed a museum named after him. Today, this monument, which has exceptional historical and architectural value, is under the care of the Ukrainian state.

Thus, the cooperation between the Lviv Historical Museum and Polonika is aimed at preserving and popularizing the common cultural heritage, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
