Lviv to mark Crimean Tatar Flag Day: programme of events

Lviv will mark Crimean Tatar National Flag Day. City residents and visitors are invited to take part in the events, the Crimean Tatar Cultural Centre and the Muslim community “Khidayet” report.

The celebrations will begin at 08:30 with a march carrying Crimean Tatar and Ukrainian flags. The procession will set off from the Crimean Tatar Cultural Centre on Saksahanskoho Street and head to the Lviv City Council building on Rynok Square.

After the Nationwide Minute of Silence on Rynok Square, by the City Hall, the Crimean Tatar flag will be solemnly raised to the sound of the national anthem of the Crimean Tatar people. A large Crimean Tatar flag will also be unfurled on the square in front of the City Hall.

During the event, a joint dua (prayer) will be offered for the fallen defenders of Ukraine and the civilians who have become victims of Russian aggression, as well as for Crimean Tatar political prisoners unlawfully imprisoned by the occupation authorities in Crimea.

Crimean Tatar Flag Day is marked every year on 26 June in Ukraine and around the world. In Lviv, on this day, the national flag of the Crimean Tatars is traditionally raised on Rynok Square as a symbol of support for the indigenous people of Crimea and a reminder that Crimea is Ukraine.
