In Lviv, the Victims of the Deportation of Crimean Tatars Remembered

In Lviv, the memory of the victims of the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people was honoured. This event was held to mark the 82nd anniversary of the deportation near the Lviv City Hall, where representatives of the Crimean Tatar community and local activists gathered.

The event commenced with the performance of the national anthems — the State Anthem of Ukraine and the Crimean Tatar national anthem ‘Ant etkenmen’. The Deputy Mayor of Lviv, Andriy Moskalenko, participated in the memorial event, emphasising the importance of remembering those who died fighting for independence.

People’s Artist of Ukraine, Dzhemil Karikov, highlighted the tragedy of 18 May 1944, when the Soviet regime deported Crimean Tatars from their homes. He stressed that our people have preserved their culture, traditions, and national spirit, which again leads to a return to their native land.

Imam Edem Basnayev from the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Crimea concluded the event with a joint prayer — dua, in which the victims of the deportation and all those who today fight for the freedom of Ukraine and Crimea were remembered.
