From 15 to 19 August, Lviv will host the Eighth Lviv Photo Festivities, a five-day festival of visual art bringing together photographers, artists, filmmakers and historians. The event is organised by the Lviv Photo Museum and the NGO “UFOTO”. Most of the events are planned to be free of charge for visitors.
On the first day, 15 August, the official opening of the festival is scheduled, along with a masterclass by Roman Herynovych on creating photographs using the historic cyanotype technique.
On 16 August, the traditional Film Day will take place, featuring screenings of films, animation, video art and documentaries, as well as discussions. Authors of short films and video projects can still apply to take part by emailing photolvivnews@gmail.com.
On 17 August, a local history and historical lecture series is planned at the Lviv Palace of Arts. At 16:00, Mykola Protsiv will present the photo project “Stopped and Preserved…”, and at 18:00 Professor Andrii Sova will give a lecture on Ivan Boberskyi’s photo archive in Canada.
On 18 August, participants are invited to a panel discussion, “The Future of Photography and AI”, with Roman Metelskyi, Roman Herynovych, Oleh Ohorodnyk and other specialists. Experts in photography and artificial intelligence are encouraged to join the discussion as speakers by sending applications to photolvivnews@gmail.com.
The final day, 19 August, will begin at 14:00 with the opening at the Lviv Historical Museum (6 Rynok Square) of an exhibition of 19th-century photographs by Josef Eder, “Retrospective. Lviv”. At 18:00, the Palace of Arts will host a curator-led tour of the cyanotype exhibition “Photo Festivities for Two” with the participation of the authors.
