A commemorative stele to Colonel of the Security Service of Ukraine Ivan Voronych to appear in Lviv

In Lviv, at the corner of Zamarsynivska Street and Abraham Lincoln Street, in the space named in honour of Colonel of the Security Service of Ukraine Ivan Voronych, a commemorative stele will be installed. The corresponding decision was adopted by the executive committee of the Lviv City Council.

The memorial object will become part of an urban space intended to honour Ukrainian defenders. The stele will consist of two tall stone columns located on a paved path. One of the columns will bear a light metal plaque with a portrait of Ivan Voronych, his name, military rank and brief information about him, while the second column will remain without inscriptions.

According to Yevhen Boiko, Chief of Staff of the executive committee of the Lviv City Council, the installation of the stele is a continuation of the city’s strategy of honouring Heroes in public space, and the colonel’s family and his comrades-in-arms have supported this initiative.

Mykhailo Shevchenko, Head of the Environment Formation Department of the Department of Architecture and Spatial Development of the Lviv City Council, noted that the design of the stele was developed by specialists of this department, and the project also provides for landscaping of the surrounding area. According to him, the space was recently named after Ivan Voronych, and the stele will be made of stone with a metal information plaque.

The initiative to install the commemorative sign came from the public organisation “Kolo Chesti” (Circle of Honour). One of its leaders and co-founders, veteran Volodymyr Lazor, stressed the importance of commemorating Colonel Ivan Voronych for the Ukrainian special services and thanked everyone involved in the implementation of the project.
