An exhibition by the Merited Artist of Ukraine Oleksandr Nikolaievskyi, entitled “Presence. Nahuievychi”, has opened at the Nahuievychi State Historical and Cultural Reserve. The event is dedicated to the 170th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Franko and his native village.
The display features more than two dozen of the artist’s paintings and graphic works. Most of the canvases are devoted to Nahuievychi – the village where Ivan Franko was born – its landscapes, atmosphere and spiritual connection with the figure of the Stonecutter.
According to Liliia Khmil, Deputy Director of the Reserve for Research, the idea for the exhibition emerged at the beginning of the year, when the artist proposed, for Franko’s jubilee, to present a cycle of works about his small homeland. She noted that the display turned out to be so extensive that it was not possible to accommodate all the paintings even in one of the museum’s largest exhibition halls.
At the opening, the artist Levko Mykytych stressed the high artistic level of the works on show. He pointed out that Oleksandr Nikolaievskyi’s pieces convey the special atmosphere of Nahuievychi and reveal the author’s inner world.
The exhibition is on view on the grounds of the Nahuievychi State Historical and Cultural Reserve Park of Naguevychy.
