The annual meeting of members of the Novoyavorivsk Society of Political Prisoners and Victims of Repression by the totalitarian communist regime was held at the Novoyavorivsk Local History Museum. During the meeting, participants summed up the organisation’s work in 2025.
Those present were given a report on the society’s activities: they recalled events and meetings held, participation in commemorative and public occasions, initiatives to honour the victims of political repression, and also discussed a number of organisational matters.
As is traditional, representatives of the local authorities took part in the meeting. The Mayor, Volodymyr Matseliukh, spoke with members of the society, answered their questions and discussed possible ways to provide support and resolve the problems faced by former political prisoners and those who suffered repression.
At present the society unites 194 members, including 37 people of advanced age — over 80. The organisation emphasises the importance of preserving their life stories and continues to work to ensure that the voices of eyewitnesses to repression are heard and supported.
