In Zhovkva, following the completion of many years of restoration work, a solemn consecration took place of the wooden Church of the Holy Trinity, an 18th-century church that is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The rite of consecration and the festive Divine Liturgy was led by Bishop Petro Loza, head of the Sokal-Zhovkva Eparchy. The service was attended by representatives of state and local authorities, the clergy, the Borys Voznytskyi Lviv National Art Gallery, as well as residents and guests of the town.
“I thank everyone who, through their work, concern and love for their native land, contributed to the preservation of this unique shrine. Today, when the Russian aggressor is deliberately destroying our cultural and spiritual heritage, the restoration of such monuments has special significance. It is not only about preserving an architectural gem, but also about affirming our historical memory, national identity and spiritual strength,” said Yaroslav Hasiak
The restoration of the church began in 2019. The total cost of the work carried out amounted to around UAH 14 million. The project was implemented with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine and the National Institute of Polish Cultural Heritage Abroad “Polonika”.
A separate stage was the restoration of the wall paintings, for which Ukrainian specialists were engaged. After the completion of all the work, the renewed Church of the Holy Trinity has once again been opened to the faithful and visitors as an important spiritual and cultural landmark of Zhovkva and the whole of Lviv region.
