Commemoration of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky in 2025
On the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the birth of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky, the year 2025 has been declared the Year of the Head of the UGCC. Consequently, the public and representatives of the city council have initiated a series of cultural and artistic events throughout the year dedicated to the figure and activities of the metropolitan. Several meetings have already been held with representatives of the clergy, and recently, the Bishop of the Sokal-Zhovkva diocese of the UGCC, Petro Loza, visited our city on a working visit. During the meeting, the Bishop and representatives of the government and local clergy discussed plans for events aimed at appropriately honoring the metropolitan’s legacy.
Event Plan and Visit of the Head of the UGCC
Special attention was paid to the revival of the city’s spiritual tradition – the Stations of the Cross through Sheptytsky streets. Participants also reviewed the program of celebrations for the birthday of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky, which will be one of the main spiritual events of the year. Among the important issues discussed was the invitation for the Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, to the celebrations. As noted by the mayor Andriy Zalivskyi during the meeting, the visit of the head of the UGCC will be a significant event for the community in the first year of the renaming of our city.
