A delicate woman who managed to become a key figure in the history of Ukrainian culture and a symbol of the struggle for life, ideas, faith, and love. Lesya Ukrainka, of noble descent with extraordinary intellectual abilities, lived during the times of the Russian Empire and the bans on the Ukrainian language. She was overcome by illness but always remained steadfast in everything she believed in and loved.
In Stryi, she is immortalized alongside two other titans of Ukrainian literature. In the city center, there is a unique monument to the three Awakening Figures – Taras Shevchenko, Ivan Franko, and Lesya Ukrainka. These days, many community cultural centers and libraries are hosting events dedicated to Lesya Ukrainka.
