Zenyk Art Gallery has for the first time presented Ukrainian art at one of the most renowned contemporary art fairs on the west coast of the United States – Seattle Art Fair. In parallel, the gallery opened its own exhibition, “Life is Beautiful, isn’t it?”.
During the trip, a meeting took place with world-famous glass artist Dale Chihuly. Representatives of the gallery invited the artist to Lviv to show his works at Zenyk Art Gallery and proposed that he collaborate with Ukrainian veterans, using glass art as a tool of therapy.
The article notes that for Lviv, where the oldest school of artistic blown glass in Ukraine was formed, such an initiative could become a valuable exchange of experience between a global legend and Ukrainian glass artists who are continuing this tradition.
Participation in the fair and the accompanying events was made possible thanks to the support of the organisations “My i Svit” (“We and the World”), the Kozytskyi Charitable Foundation, as well as the friendly ties between the Lviv Regional State Administration and the state of Washington, established during last year’s visit of an American delegation to Lviv region.
The trip also continued into the medical sphere. At the invitation of Washington State Governor Bob Ferguson, Orest Chemerys, Rector of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University, held working meetings with specialists from the University of Washington, the Seattle Children’s medical centre, a top-level trauma centre, the leadership of the state’s healthcare system and representatives of the National Guard.
The parties agreed to cooperate in several areas:
- joint research in the field of lower limb prosthetics and submission of applications for international scientific projects;
- use of developments by American bioengineers to meet the needs of Ukrainian patients and exchange of experience with specialists from the LNMU prosthetics workshop;
- development of modern treatment protocols for injuries for the future LNMU Trauma and Rehabilitation Clinic;
- placements for doctors from Lviv region in medical institutions in the United States;
- exchange of experience in rehabilitation and the reintegration of military personnel into civilian life;
- cooperation in paediatric orthopaedics, prosthetics and rehabilitation as part of a project to create a clinic for children and adolescents affected by the war.
It is expected that thanks to these agreements, doctors from Lviv region will gain access to the expertise of leading American specialists, and Ukrainian patients will have more opportunities for state-of-the-art treatment, prosthetics and rehabilitation at home, in Lviv region.
