In October 2023, 42 events are planned in the Lviv Organ Hall, including a celebratory concert for the 80th anniversary of the Luhansk Philharmonic, the opening of the exhibition “Mariupol. 86 #live”, performance of works of Ukrainian composers found in the archives, new programs of the Choir “Homin” and the start of the 13th Lviv International Organ Festival.
The month will begin with the “Jubilee Symphony Concert. 80 years of the Luhansk Philharmonic”, which will take place on October 1 at 5:00 p.m. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the orchestra of the Luhansk Philharmonic has been relocated to Lviv. At the anniversary concert, which symbolically coincided with the Day of Defenders of Ukraine, the orchestra will perform a program of masterpieces of European classics. Conductor – Ivan Ostapovich.
On October 4, at 5:00 p.m., the opening of the exhibition “Mariupol. 86 #live”. She talks about how the world watched the events during the blockade of Mariupol through social networks. The blockade lasted 86 days. The exhibition presents 36 photo canvases on four themes: Azovstal, the city, children, defenders. Organizers: Mariupol City Council, project “Ya Mariupol. Culture”, m.EHUB and the Lviv Organ Hall.
On October 6, the reconstruction concert “Vorobkevich. Opera “Olga””. The symphony orchestra of the Luhansk Regional Philharmonic and soloists will play music that has been waiting to be performed for more than a century and a half. The conductor’s story during the concert will help to understand more about that time and its importance for the future of all of Ukraine.
New pages of Ukrainian music will continue to be opened at the October 14 concert “Symphonic Evening in the Organ Hall”, where the music for the historical ballet “Euppraxia” by Oleksandr Kanershtein, as well as Ivan Ostapovich’s new work “The Tree of Dreams” will be played.
On October 21, the historical concert “Verbytsky. “Highlanders””. The legendary work of Mykhailo Verbytskyi will be performed by the Luhansk Symphony Orchestra, Lviv soloists and the “Homin” choir, conducted by Ivan Ostapovich.
In October, the Choir “Homin” will surprise with new programs. A light and beautiful choral concert will be held on October 10 and 31. In it, the works of famous classics will be heard alongside the choral music of the third millennium. The conductors will be: Maksym Shpinda on October 10, Viktoriya Antoshevska on the 31st.
Another novelty from the choir will be the performance of the program “Emotional journey through Ukrainian music: Secrets of the world and folklore” conducted by Vadym Yatsenko on October 17 and 29. It is with her that the choir will perform on tour in Sweden.
Many guest organists will be waiting for the people of Lviv in October, in particular, on October 7, Kateryna Gazho from Uzhhorod will play “Masterpieces of World Organ Classics”, on October 13, the “Music of Europe” concert will take place, where the chief organist of the Lutsk Cathedral and teacher Petro Sukhotsky will perform together with his students: Olga Tanska, Anastasia Sakharuk, Anzhelika Ochkurenko and Iryna Nazaruk.
The 13th Lviv International Organ Festival will begin on October 19, and this year it will last until November 10. It will be opened with the concert “Evening of Quiet Romance” by the German organist Jacobus Gladziva and the singer of Ukrainian origin Roksolyana Hryniuk.
On October 25, the “Music of Light” program will be presented by organist Nadia Velichko.
October 27 and 28 in Organny – “Polish virtuoso Michal Shostak”. Two solo concerts of the organist from Warsaw will be remembered with refined European classics and the “Organ Symphony on Ukrainian Themes” – an organ improvisation created just for this event.
For the birthday of Ferenc Liszt, the soloist of the Organ Hall, Andriy Makarevych, has prepared two programs: on October 22, he will perform the legendary cycle “Transcendent Etudes”, and on October 28, the audience is invited to hear Liszt’s piano transcriptions.
The Galician Academic Choir will also visit the Organ Hall. The “Music of the Free World” concert on October 26 embodies deep gratitude to the countries that supported Ukraine during the war. The program of the concert conducted by Bohdan Prytula unites 10 works, each of which is a musical image of a specific country.
