Taras Sulymko, Head of the Sokilnyky Village Council, has issued a public statement in response to recent criticism from Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi and his deputy, Liubomyr Zubach, regarding the updated General Plan of the Sokilnyky Territorial Community.
Addressing residents of both Sokilnyky and Lviv communities, Sulymko emphasized that the two communities share equal status under Ukrainian law and that their relationship should be built on mutual respect and neighborly cooperation.
Key points from Sulymko’s statement:
-
Focus on National Defense: In 2024, the Sokilnyky community provided over UAH 100 million in aid to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, delivering 87 vehicles, organizing 39 frontline trips, and completing 46 procurements totaling over UAH 79 million. In the first three months of 2025 alone, they have provided UAH 6.52 million in aid.
-
Transparent Urban Planning: The updated General Plan was developed in accordance with Ukrainian legislation, with prior public announcements and open discussions that even Lviv representatives were welcome to attend. The plan was unanimously approved by the architectural council under the Lviv Regional Administration.
-
Refuting Concerns: Sulymko dismissed claims of a future “transport collapse” and lack of infrastructure, stating the plan includes new schools, kindergartens, medical facilities, sports complexes, and office centers — making the community self-sufficient.
-
Invitation to Dialogue: The community has repeatedly reached out to Lviv’s authorities proposing working groups, joint projects, and dialogue on transport links. Sulymko humorously invited the mayor and his deputy to meet “over coffee in Sokilnyky” and encouraged sharing of Lviv’s own urban planning updates.
-
Clarification on Land Near Airport: Sulymko clarified that the community had no involvement in the privatization or resale of land near Lviv Airport, which was divided back in 2006 and later entered Sokilnyky’s jurisdiction after district reform in 2020.
In conclusion, Sulymko called on Lviv officials to:
-
Refrain from spreading unverified or false information;
-
Respect the community’s legal planning decisions;
-
Engage in constructive, fact-based dialogue.
The Sokilnyky community remains open to cooperation and is focused on both sustainable development and unwavering support for Ukraine’s defenders.
