Lviv has become one of the first Ukrainian cities to join the shaping of the G7 agenda by taking part in the international Urban7 mayors’ summit in the French city of Nancy.
On 4 June, First Deputy Mayor of Lviv Andriy Moskalenko, together with the mayors of Vinnytsia, Mykolaiv, Kopychyntsi and the Deputy Mayor of Kherson, represented Ukrainian cities at this forum. The Urban7 Summit became a platform for strengthening support for Ukraine at municipal level.
According to Andriy Moskalenko, this was a special meeting held under France’s presidency of the G7, ahead of the summit of world leaders. For the first time, Urban7 has been officially recognised as a G7 Engagement Group, giving cities a formalised channel through which to influence the G7 agenda.
As a result, participants signed the Nancy Declaration. In addition to Lviv, the document was endorsed by representatives of Paris, Nancy, Rennes, Los Angeles, as well as the mayors of a number of German and Japanese cities. Alongside strategic initiatives, the resolution includes a separate section on support for Ukraine and strengthening the resilience of cities.
During the visit to Nancy, cooperation was launched with Université de Lorraine to develop a partnership with Unbroken, and also with representatives of the cities of Kobe, Paris and Montpellier. Andriy Moskalenko stressed that for Lviv such meetings mean new partnerships that turn into concrete projects, support for Unbroken and assistance to people affected by the war.
The Urban7 Summit took place in Nancy on 3–4 June and brought together more than 200 elected representatives from 15 countries, including delegations from national associations of G7 cities and invited guests from South Korea, Brazil, India and Kenya. In 2026, Urban7 gained the status of an official G7 Engagement Group. The aim of the summit is to convey the political message of cities to G7 leaders ahead of their meeting in Évian on 15–17 June. The organisers emphasise that the presence of Ukrainian representatives is one of the key focal points of this year’s event.
