The Mayor of Lviv has announced a meeting with the Prime Minister of Moldova, Vasile Tofan, who recently took charge of his country's government. The leaders discussed the shared challenges facing Ukraine and Moldova, particularly in the context of the war and European integration.
According to the Lviv mayor, Vasile Tofan is fluent in Ukrainian, as before being appointed prime minister in July this year he had lived and worked in Kyiv for almost 15 years. Even after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, he continued to work in Ukraine.
During their conversation, both sides stressed that Ukraine and Moldova are candidates for accession to the European Union. Despite the fact that the war has created different conditions for the two states, both countries have experience of resisting the occupation of parts of their territories, and therefore have common ground for dialogue and cooperation.
The Moldovan Prime Minister was particularly interested in Ukraine's resilience strategy and the educational programme of the UNBROKEN University, which focuses on how cities can survive and develop under the constant threat of missile and drone attacks.
The parties agreed to meet more frequently and deepen their cooperation. The Mayor of Lviv emphasised that exchanging experience with neighbouring states, particularly in the fields of security and resilience, is an important component of strengthening Ukraine and the entire region.
