Work is under way in Lviv region to define development restriction zones around Danylo Halytskyi Lviv International Airport. At the latest meeting of the parties that signed the Memorandum of Cooperation, they discussed the future use of the airport-adjacent areas and the alignment of urban planning decisions with flight safety requirements.
The memorandum on settling disputed issues concerning the development of areas adjacent to the airport was signed in April 2026 between the Lviv Regional Military Administration, SE “Danylo Halytskyi Lviv International Airport” and the Sokilnyky Village Council. The document provides for joint preparation of decisions on the development of the airport area, taking into account flight safety requirements and making amendments to urban planning documentation.
One of the main areas of work is the creation of cartographic materials that will outline development restriction zones near the airfield for both daytime and night-time. These materials must take into account the impact of aircraft noise and set clear parameters for the use of the surrounding areas.
“Work on defining these zones has practical significance both for flight safety and for the further urban development of the area. A clear delineation of restriction zones will make it possible to align future development and infrastructure decisions with the operational requirements of the airport,” noted Deputy Head of the Lviv Regional State Administration Yurii Buchko.
Earlier, the airport submitted to the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine, for approval, a report detailing residential development restriction zones and the conditions of aircraft noise impact on the airport-adjacent area.
In parallel, the Sokilnyky Village Council prepared an analytical report based on the results of urban planning monitoring of the master plans of the villages of Sokilnyky, Basivka and Hodovytsia. On the basis of these materials, the parties continue to implement the Memorandum agreements and are jointly seeking solutions that will allow them to combine the development of the airport, compliance with flight safety requirements and the development prospects of the surrounding areas.
