
On 18 May, Member of the Ukrainian Parliament Stepan Kubiv unexpectedly passed away at the age of 64. He made a significant contribution to the country’s political life.
Stepan Kubiv was a renowned statesman. He played an active role in the Revolution of Dignity, where he served as the commandant of the National Resistance Headquarters. He held the position of First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Economic Development and Trade from 2016 to 2019.
His role in the National Bank of Ukraine was also crucial, as he headed the institution throughout 2014. Kubiv was also a Member of Parliament across four terms, as well as the President of Ukraine’s envoy to Parliament.
“Stepan Kubiv was a man of statesmanlike thinking, a principled politician and a patriot of Ukraine who dedicated his life to serving the state and the Ukrainian people,” noted the acting head of the Lviv Regional Council, Yuriy Kholod.
