In Drohobych, the executive committee of the Drohobych City Council has decided to dismantle the “Al Capone” sign, installed as a small architectural feature on the facade of the municipal enterprise Tustan Hotel building.
The issue was brought forward following repeated appeals from local residents, in particular representatives of the Drohobych branch of Prosvita. They argued that the appearance in public space of an inscription associated with the image of a gangster was inappropriate, and this position was supported by the community leadership.
The executive committee adopted the decision on 7 July at a scheduled meeting. The owner of the sign has been obliged to remove it voluntarily by 23 July.
If the requirement is not met by the specified date, the sign will be forcibly dismantled by municipal services, but no later than 31 July.
