The Lviv City Council has approved a decision on the naming, renaming and clarification of the names of a number of streets and squares in the Lviv community. The changes affected, in particular, Dublyany, Malekhiv, Riasne-Ruske, Vynnyky, Pidriasne and certain streets in Lviv.
In Dublyany, Malekhiv and Riasne-Ruske, the names of streets with the same name were clarified. Previously they were called Danylo Halytskyi Street, a name dating back to Soviet times. These toponyms have now been given their historically correct form — Korolia Danyla Street (King Danylo Street). Likewise, a square in Lviv, previously called Danylo Halytskyi Square, has been renamed Korolia Danyla Square (King Danylo Square).
In Vynnyky, part of Kiltseva Street, on the stretch from Lysyk Street to Ruta Viter Street, has been named in honour of Vladyslav Allerov — Hero of Ukraine, commander of the separate special-purpose unit ‘Omega’ of the National Guard of Ukraine.
In Pidriasne, four previously unnamed streets have received official names. The street previously designated as ‘Nameless No. 1’ is now called Mykola Lebid Street, in honour of the Ukrainian political figure, founder and first head of the Security Service of the OUN. ‘Nameless No. 2’ has been renamed Korolia Danyla Street. ‘Nameless No. 3’ has been given the name Artem Tolochko Street, in commemoration of a Ukrainian defender fallen in the Russian-Ukrainian war. ‘Nameless No. 4’ is henceforth called Svobody Street (Freedom Street).
Adjustments have also affected some streets in Lviv. Lev Street has been renamed Knyazia Leva Street (Prince Lev Street), and Iryny Kalynets Street now has the official name Rodyny Kalyntsiv Street (Kalynets Family Street).
All changes were previously reviewed and supported by the dedicated commission on street renaming. The City Council stressed that residents do not need to have their documents specially reissued because of the updated addresses. Entrepreneurs will eventually need to update their registration details, but for both them and community residents this procedure is free of charge.
