Honorary Consulate of Iceland Opened in Lviv

The Honorary Consulate of Iceland has started functioning in Lviv, marking an important step in strengthening Icelandic-Ukrainian relations.

The head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, announced a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iceland to Ukraine, Fridrik Jonsson, and the newly appointed Honorary Consul of Iceland in Lviv, Andriy Deshchytsia. “We have a clear signal: Iceland firmly stands with us and strongly believes in our victory,” Kozytskyi stated.

The consulate covers the Lviv, Volyn, Ternopil, and Rivne regions, making Lviv a center of Icelandic-Ukrainian partnership in western Ukraine. Joint projects in reconstruction, education, culture, innovation, and medicine are anticipated.

Iceland provides significant support to Ukraine, including over 5.5 billion Icelandic kronas for humanitarian, economic, and defense aid in 2022–2023, and nearly 30 million dollars annually until 2028. Additionally, 2 million euros have been allocated for the purchase of ammunition under the Czech initiative.
