Worker Shortage Threatens the Operation of Drhobych Vodokanal

The municipal enterprise ‘Drhobych Vodokanal’ is facing an acute shortage of workers, affecting the timely repair of water supply and sewerage networks.

Prior to the full-scale invasion, the company employed 308 people; now there are 264. The enterprise manages 247 km of water supply and 112 km of sewer networks. The normative number for servicing this length should be 38 people, but in fact, only 18 remain.

Considering that 57% of the networks are depreciated, their accident rate is high. In 2024, 976 accidents were resolved. To maintain an uninterrupted water supply, the pipes are constantly being repaired, but there are not enough hands.

*This month, vacancies for electric and gas welders, as well as locksmiths, have been announced*, but there are no applicants. The work of the crews is very intense: they perform both planned work and eliminate accidents based on a priority algorithm.

*’The enterprise aims to minimize the number of leaks in the networks,’ mentioned the company*.
Water losses are regulated by Ukrainian law.
