Under the procedural leadership of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the operative police department of one of the district police departments of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv Region was exposed and detained. He is charged with extorting and receiving an unlawful benefit (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the law enforcement officer demanded and received an illegal benefit from a local resident for closing the criminal proceedings and assisting in the illegal lifting of the property seizure.
The court seized the vehicle belonging to the man as part of another criminal proceeding.
For $1,000, the suspect promised to “solve the matter” and close the criminal proceedings.
The police detained the man in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine after receiving the specified amount of unlawful benefit.
Investigations are ongoing. The issue of selecting a preventive measure for the detainee and removing him from his post is being resolved.
The pre-trial investigation is carried out by the Territorial Department of the SBU in the city of Lviv, under the operational support of the SBU Department in the Lviv region.
Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
