Under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the deputy head of a district police department in Lviv region and the head of the patrol police response department of the same district police department were exposed and served suspicion notices. They are charged with extortion and obtaining an unlawful benefit by prior conspiracy (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the police officers demanded and received USD 2,500 for not bringing the person to criminal responsibility and closing the criminal proceedings.
In December 2023, a fight broke out at a gas station in Lviv region. Criminal proceedings were opened over the incident.
Subsequently, law enforcement officers demanded a bribe for closing the proceedings from a person who may have been involved in the commission of the above offense.
The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by investigators of the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation in Lviv.
Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
