LVIV REGION: BORDER GUARDS EXPOSE UKRAINIAN WHO ORGANISED MEN’S SMUGGLING ACROSS THE BORDER BYPASSING CHECKPOINTS
Operational officers of the Lviv Border Guard Detachment, together with law enforcement officers, exposed a resident of Volyn region who organised the smuggling of men liable for military service abroad.
Law enforcement officers established that the 21-year-old man agreed to organise a transfer for a man of military age who intended to evade mobilisation in exchange for a monetary reward. The “businessman” estimated his services at USD 2,200.
To implement his plan, the conductor planned the route in advance, but the travellers failed to reach their destination. In the course of joint verification measures, the trafficker and the “client” were detained after the latter gave a deposit for the illegal transfer.
Investigators served the organiser of the illegal scheme a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offence under Part 3 of Art. 332 (Illegal transfer of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of seven to nine years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years and confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by border guards of the Operational and Investigative Unit of the Lviv Border Guard Detachment jointly with the Migration Police Department, investigators of the Main National Police in Lviv region under the supervision of the Lviv Specialised Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defence of the Western Region.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
