Lviv region: Law enforcers detain offender who organized smuggling of a man liable for military service across the border
Law enforcement officers have established that a 22-year-old resident of Sambir district promised her husband, who is liable for military service, to illegally smuggle him across the state border of Ukraine outside checkpoints in exchange for USD 12 thousand.
The offender was exposed by investigators of the Serious Crimes Investigation Department (detectives) of the Lviv Police Investigation Department jointly with the Security Service of Ukraine in Lviv region, under the procedural supervision of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office of the Western Region.
The woman estimated her services at USD 12 thousand. On August 1, law enforcement officers detained her in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine after receiving part of the funds from the “client” in the amount of USD 6 thousand.
Investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 3 of Art. 332 (Illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of seven to nine years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the court will soon choose a measure of restraint against the suspect.
