In the Lviv Region, an attacker involved in several cases of illegal possession of rented cars will be tried
The accused, a 22-year-old resident of the Volyn region, leased cars from private individuals allegedly for the provision of transport services, after which he placed advertisements for their sale on specialized websites, sold them to third parties, and appropriated the received funds.
The law enforcement officers started an investigation after the owner of one of the cars, who rented it to the attacker, discovered an advertisement for the sale of his vehicle on the Internet and asked for help from the police.
Criminal police operatives and investigators of police department No. 1 of Lviv district police department No. 2, as well as employees of the Department of Criminal Analysis of the Police of Lviv Oblast were involved in solving the crime. The law enforcement officers established the identity of the attacker – he turned out to be a 22-year-old resident of the Volyn region.
It was also established that on September 21, the accused rented a Mitsubishi Pajero car from a resident of Lviv, allegedly for the purpose of providing transport services during wedding ceremonies. The parties agreed on the amount of rent and other conditions, after which the owner handed over the vehicle and technical passport to the “tenant”.
However, the very next day, the perpetrator sold the rented car to a resident of the Volyn region for $7,300, and appropriated the proceeds. At the same time, the market value of the sold “Mitsubishi Pajero” is 400 thousand hryvnias (more than 10 thousand US dollars).
The law enforcement officers also established that the accused was involved in the commission of three more similar crimes. As a result of his illegal actions, residents of Lviv, Kyiv, Rivne and Khmelnytskyi suffered.
The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings opened under the procedural leadership of the Frankiv District Prosecutor’s Office under part 2, 3 of article 289 (Illegal possession of a vehicle) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and part 3 of article 190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine has been completed. The indictment is referred to the court.
The maximum penalty for the perpetrator is imprisonment for a term of up to twelve years with confiscation of property.
