25-year-old prosecutor in a Skoda Superb hits two children at a crosswalk near Smerekiv in Lviv district

The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) emphasizes that ensuring accountability for everyone, regardless of position or status, is a core principle of its work. Road accidents involving officials are investigated objectively and impartially, taking all circumstances into account.

On the evening of February 24, SBI officers immediately arrived at the scene near Lviv to carry out urgent investigative steps and collect evidence.

According to preliminary findings, at about 7:00 p.m. on February 24, 2026, near the village of Smerekiv in Lviv district, a Skoda Superb driven by a 25-year-old prosecutor of the Sheptytskyi District Prosecutor’s Office of Lviv region struck two minors. A brother and sister were crossing the road at a pedestrian crosswalk.

As a result of the crash, a 14-year-old girl died at the scene, while her 10-year-old brother was taken to hospital. During a check, investigators found no signs of alcohol intoxication in the driver.

The incident has been preliminarily classified as a violation of road safety rules causing the victim’s death (Part 2, Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

SBI investigators are continuing initial procedural actions, including questioning witnesses, seizing CCTV footage, and collecting other physical evidence. All necessary examinations are expected to be назначено soon to clarify the full circumstances.

The Bureau states it will ensure a comprehensive and unbiased review of the case. Procedural supervision is carried out by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
