
A 37-year-old resident of Radekhiv district has been sentenced to life imprisonment with property confiscation for the brutal murder of a married couple near the village of Lopatin in Lviv region.
According to the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, in late September 2024, the man broke into the home of a fellow villager and stole a hunting shotgun along with ammunition from a safe. He also took camouflage clothing, a binocular, mobile phones, a knife, a military first aid kit, a headlamp, as well as food and alcohol.
In early October, armed with the stolen shotgun, he entered the house of a local couple and fatally shot a 48-year-old woman and her 51-year-old husband. The crime took place in their home located near Lopatin.
After committing the double homicide, the killer evaded authorities for a month. Law enforcement officers eventually tracked him down in November in Volyn region. During the arrest, he attempted to shoot himself, but medics intervened in time and saved his life, allowing him to face trial.
