USD 5,500 for updating data in TCC and delay – firefighter suspected of influence peddling
Under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a firefighter-rescuer of one of the state fire and rescue units of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Lviv region was served a notice of suspicion.
He is charged with obtaining an unlawful benefit for himself and a third party for influencing the decision-making of a person authorised to perform state functions, combined with extortion of such benefit (Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the firefighter-rescuer promised to “resolve the issue” of updating the data of the person liable for military service in the TCC and the JV. He also promised to produce documents granting a temporary deferral from mobilisation.
The suspect assured the man that he had influence on officials of the territorial recruitment and social support centre.
For this, he demanded USD 5,500.
The man was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the CPC of Ukraine after receiving the previously agreed amount of money.
The issue of choosing a measure of restraint, removing him from office and seizing his property is being decided.
The investigation is ongoing, and all persons involved in the crime are being identified.
The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by investigators of the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation, with the SBU Office in Lviv region providing the materials.
Note: In accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person shall be presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved in accordance with the law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
