Sambir District Prosecutor’s Office achieved the conviction of a 40-year-old resident for illegal logging and transportation of trees in the nature reserve, resulting in significant damages (part 3, 4 of Article 246 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The man was sentenced to five years in prison with a three-year delay, along with the obligation to compensate for material damages.
In October 2024, he carried out illegal logging, cutting down trees of the ‘Spruce’ and ‘Aspen’ species in one of the villages of Borinske settlement council.
While attempting to remove the felled timber, he was apprehended by the police. The illegal actions caused damage to the state amounting to approximately 445,000 hryvnias.
The investigation was conducted by the police investigators of Sambir district. The court’s verdict will come into effect after the appeal period concludes.
