74-year-old passenger killed in a car crash near Sokal, two drivers hospitalized

October 13, a serious road accident occurred near the town of Sokal in the Lviv region, resulting in one fatality and two injuries.

At approximately 1:40 p.m., a collision took place on the Sokal–Tartakiv highway between a BMW minivan driven by a 37-year-old resident of Lviv region and a Ford Galaxy operated by a 43-year-old man from Sokal.

According to preliminary police findings, a 74-year-old passenger of the BMW, a resident of one of the villages in the Sheptytskyi district, died at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. Both drivers sustained bodily injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

Law enforcement officers from Police Unit No. 2 of the Sheptytskyi District Police Department, along with other police services of Lviv region, responded to the scene. Investigators have initiated a criminal proceeding under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for violating traffic safety rules that resulted in the death of a person.

If found guilty, the responsible party may face 3 to 8 years in prison, with an additional potential ban on driving for up to three years.

The police are currently working to determine all the circumstances and causes of the crash.
