Apartment Scam in Bucha: Veterans Victimised

In Bucha, a massive scam has been uncovered where fraudsters attempted to profit from those who lost their homes. Among the victims are veterans and internally displaced persons who lost their dwellings due to the war. They invested their last savings in new apartments, only to be deceived instead.

Under the procedural guidance of the Bucha District Prosecutor’s Office, two individuals have been charged under part 5 of article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This involves the leaders of housing cooperatives who were offering investments in unfinished high-rise buildings, deceitfully signing contracts and presenting fake documents to create an illusion of legality. People invested hundreds of thousands of hryvnias, yet the construction was never completed, the properties were not put into operation, and the funds were embezzled by the scammers.

As of today, 66 victims have been identified, and the total amount of damages exceeds 35.5 million hryvnias. This is not just fraud – it’s an attempt to profit from the misfortune of people who have already lost their homes and defended the country. Authorities are working to recover the victims’ funds and identify all those involved in the criminal scheme.
