In the Lviv Region, the parents of a six-month-old boy are to be tried for wilful neglect of their child care duties. At the end of January, the child was hospitalised with diagnoses of tuberculosis, meningoencephalitis, flu, and other illnesses. Medical professionals also identified underweight issues and other bodily disorders.
The police determined that the illnesses were due to the parents’ inadequate care, as they failed to provide proper living conditions, delayed seeking medical advice, and did not provide medical assistance. The family, residing in the Lviv district, was raising seven children aged from six months to ten years. The parents were officially unemployed and registered with social services.
The pre-trial investigation, conducted under the supervision of the Zhovkva District Prosecutor’s Office, has been completed. The indictment has been sent to court. The article’s sanction provides for a penalty of restriction or deprivation of liberty for a term of two to five years.
On 2 February, the executive committee of the territorial community decided on the immediate removal of the children from the family and their placement in specialised institutions. The issue of holding accountable the representatives of the services accompanying the family is also being considered.
