Belgian Shepherd Detects Drugs on Bus at Border

At the Shehyni-Medyka checkpoint, customs officers discovered 633 pills with restricted circulation in Ukraine from a bus passenger.

A 62-year-old native of Zaporizhzhia, who is a citizen of Spain, was transporting 148 pills and 10 patches with narcotics, as well as 485 tablets with psychotropics. The medications were hidden in a cardboard box among the luggage. They were detected by a three-year-old shepherd named Alsu, who serves at the Lviv Customs.

“During the bus inspection, Alsu reacted as trained to detect narcotic substances: she didn’t bark, didn’t jump, but quietly sat on her tail and waited for my command. That’s how we realized there was something ‘tasty’ among the boxes,” said cynologist Oleg.

A protocol for the violation of customs regulations was drawn up, and law enforcement agencies were informed of a possible criminal offense.
