Following a public prosecution by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, four Ukrainian citizens were found guilty. They were convicted of high treason, participation in a terrorist organisation and activities of armed groups not provided for by law (Article 111(1), (2), Article 258-3(1), Article 260(2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
All the convicts were sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Prosecutors proved in court that in 2022, residents of Donetsk and Luhansk regions voluntarily sided with the enemy and joined the so-called “people’s militia of the DPR and LPR”.
The men received uniforms, small arms, ammunition and were enrolled in separate personnel units of the Russian military formations. They were assigned to the positions of riflemen, radio operator and machine gunner. The convicts mastered the tactics of combat, assault, advance, retreat and first aid.
During their military service, the men performed various tasks related to the conduct of hostilities against the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In particular, they ensured the security of the Russian army’s locations, arranged trenches and dugouts.
In addition, they patrolled vehicles, checked the documents of people travelling in them, and carried out checkpoints. They also evacuated fallen soldiers.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the fighting has been taking place in the settlements of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia regions.
All members of the occupation forces were detained.
The special pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the SBU Office in Lviv region.
