
A man from a village in the Lviv district is to stand trial for animal cruelty. The incident occurred on January 16th when a 63-year-old resident brutally beat a dog belonging to his neighbour. The perpetrator inflicted numerous blows to the animal’s head and back with a wooden stick while holding it by the scruff of the neck. Fortunately, the dog survived.
The pre-trial investigation was conducted by detectives from the police department No. 1 of the Lviv district under the supervision of the Zhovkva district prosecutor’s office. The investigation has concluded, and the indictment under part 3 of article 299 (Cruelty to Animals) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine has already been sent for court consideration. The sanction of this article stipulates a penalty of imprisonment for a term of five to eight years.
